GP Examiner on Greek Newspaper Frontpage

Greek newspaper Eleftheri Ora has published a frontpage news on May 3rd,2010, based on a story at gpexaminer.com. Eleftheri Ora has referred to GP Examiner article “Israel Buys Greek Islands” (of March 28th, 2010). This development has shocked many of their readers as well as us. As all of you who visit our website know, our disclaimer clearly states that some of our stories may include ficticious content. Therefore, the newspaper should have contacted us and ask if the story has a ground and who are our sources. We are very surprized to see that a national newspaper can publish a story without confirming if the story is real or not.

40 Predators of Press Freedom

From Reporters Without Borders For Press Freedom , Published on 3-May-2010

There are 40 names on this year’s list of Predators of Press Freedom – 40 politicians, government officials, religious leaders, militias and criminal organisations that cannot stand the press, treat it as an enemy and directly attack journalists. They are powerful, dangerous, violent and above the law.

Many of them were already on last year’s list. In Latin America, there is no change in the four major sources of threats and violence against journalists: drug traffickers, the Cuban dictatorship, FARC and paramilitary groups. Africa has also seen few changes. But power relationships have been evolving in the Middle East and Asia.

Redrawing the map of Europe

From The Economist online

The European map is outdated and illogical. Here’s how it should look.

PEOPLE who find their neighbours tiresome can move to another neighbourhood, whereas countries can’t. But suppose they could. Rejigging the map of Europe would make life more logical and friendlier.

Britain, which after its general election will have to confront its dire public finances, should move closer to the southern-European countries that find themselves in a similar position. It could be towed to a new position near the Azores. (If the journey proves a bumpy one, it might be a good opportunity to make Wales and Scotland into separate islands).

Egypt Pumps Poison Gas Into Gaza Tunnels, Kills 4 People

By RIZEK ABDEL JAWAD , Associated Press

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Egyptian forces pumped gas into a cross-border tunnel used to smuggle goods into the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, killing four Palestinians, Hamas officials said.

Egypt has been under pressure to seal off the hundreds of tunnels that are a key economic lifeline for the blockaded Palestinian territory but which are also used to bring in weapons for the Islamic militant group.

Israel and Egypt have kept Gaza’s official border crossings closed since Hamas seized control of the coastal strip in 2007 from forces loyal to Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who now only governs in the West Bank.
